The problem
Woolly Chic is a Hitchin based independent retailer specialising in premium knitting and crochet products, including yarn produced from the fleece of sheep on the owners’ family farm in Pembrokeshire. The wool is spun and dyed in Yorkshire, creating a truly British product with complete traceability from farm to finished yarn.
Alongside its own wool, the business also offers ethically sourced organic cotton, knitting and crochet kits, patterns and accessories. The challenge was to create an eCommerce website that reflected the quality and ethical values of the brand while making it easy for customers to browse, discover and purchase products online.
The existing website had been built using an off-the-shelf template which had become increasingly inflexible over time. As the business grew, it became difficult to make the changes needed to keep the website current, leaving the owner frustrated by both the limitations of the platform and the lack of timely support. A completely new website was needed to provide the flexibility, ease of management and long-term scalability the business required.
The solution
I designed and developed a bespoke WooCommerce website that puts the products centre stage while providing a fast, intuitive shopping experience across desktop, tablet and mobile devices.
The site was carefully structured to help customers explore the different product ranges with ease, whether they’re searching for a particular yarn, looking for inspiration or browsing complete knitting and crochet kits. The clean, uncluttered design allows the products and photography to shine, while the refreshed colour palette reinforces the brand’s natural, sustainable ethos.
The checkout process was streamlined to minimise friction, with multiple payment options, including Apple Pay, making it as quick and convenient as possible for customers to complete their purchases.
The result
Woolly Chic now has a modern eCommerce website that reflects the quality, provenance and ethical values of the business while providing customers with a seamless online shopping experience. The new site showcases the unique story behind the products and gives the business a platform that is both attractive and easy to use.
The owner’s feedback says it all:
“Wow! I think the new site looks great. The use of the green logo and complementary colour scheme throughout is perfect. Thank you so much for all your hard work. I am really pleased with how it looks.”
